Welcome to Bartlett, Tennessee!

Welcome to my website. I'm Margaret Johnson, and I live in Bartlett, Tennesse. My home is located just 4 miles from the NHLA Inspection School, and I've been renting to NHLA students for about 5 years as of this writing. Just click on any of the photos to view larger versions, and if you see a bold-faced link, it will take you to additional information. If you'd like to learn a bit more about student life at the school, please visit this site which was created by one of my past student tenents.

I rent my rooms to students because I really love to meet new people and make new friends. I always tell my students that they should make themselves at home and get comfortable when they stay here. For example, if you own a Playstation or X-Box, please feel free to bring it along and play with other students in the afternoons. I'd prefer that my renters see me as more of a roommate than as a landlady. Typically, whenever students are staying here, we all share the fridge and the stove, and most students tend to get involved in some of the household chores, such as taking out the garbage, vacuuming the floors and carpets, and running the dishwasher and washing machine.

Students have full access to just about all the house, and I always encourage them to feel comfortable bringing their friends and classmates over. I have a gas barbeque grill, and students often host informal get-togethers for other students. I allow alcohol to be kept in the fridge and consumed on the premises, as long as it is done within reason and doesn't get out of hand. Any abuse would force me to change the policy. It should go without saying that any illegal drug use would be a clear violation of the law and will not be permitted.

My house is conveniently located in Bartlett, and just about everything you can imagine is within one mile of the house: parks, supermarkets, great restaurants, fast food, two shopping centers, movie theaters, coffee shops...you name it, and you can probably get there within minutes from my house. As mentioned earlier, I'm just a little over 4 miles from the school. If you click on the map, you can see my house (green arrow) and the school (red arrow). There are many ways to get to school, either on main roads, or mostly side streets if you care to ride a bike.

If you like outdoor activities, there are also many parks for walking and running, as well as riding your bike if you care to bring one. If you enjoy mountain biking, there are miles of very challenging single-track trails in Bartlett Park, just a few minutes ride from my house. I have a small storage shed in my back yard, so you can store your bike there if you're not comfortable leaving it on my covered back porch.

This photo is of Pumpkin, my cat, who thinks he's the owner of the house. He seems to think that I just pay the bills and buy his groceries, and he allows me to live here. Actually, he's a very friendly cat who has the run of the house, but if you keep your bedroom door closed, he'll stay out. I mention this in case you're allergic to cats.

I have two bedrooms for rent, both at the same price, and one is a bit larger than the other. If there are two students scheduled for a class session, the first to arrive before orientation gets to choose which room they want. Both rooms have a chest of drawers and a closet, as well as a full-size bed. I include all the bedding and bath towels you'll need, but you'll be responsible for seeing that they get washed regularly. I have a new washer and dryer, and students have full access to them, as well as a shared bathroom (if there are two students).

There's parking for two cars in the driveway, as long as you park close to the house as I need access to the driveway to get to my garage in the back. You can see how students park in the photo at the beginning of this piece. I also have DSL Broadband connectivity, but it's available at an extra charge. I can activate my account to have it turned on while students are here, and they pay me the $38.00 a month when the bill arrives. I have all the necessary equipment, and only need to call BellSouth to have it activated.

In this last photo, a student relaxes on the back patio, which is almost like having an outside living room. It's a very comfortable place to relax, and students spend a lot of time out there when the weather permits. I have a large backyard, and students are free to enjoy it as long as they don't trample the flower beds.

If you're interested in staying in a private home with great access to the points of interest in the area, please give me a call either at work or at my home. My numbers and my mailing address are listed on the NHLA Housing list provided to you by Mary Bartee, the registrar. You can also click the following link to email me directly: bartlett.house@gmail.com.

Margaret Johnson
